Campfire Fun

This year, your son has an important decision to make: Which Boy Scout Troop is he going to join?  There are 3 Troops in Sudbury, and you can join whichever Troop you and he think suits your family best.  It doesn’t matter which school, church, synagogue or temple you have or will attend, you can chose any Boy Scout Troop.  How can you work out which Troop is best for you?  We suggest you visit with them all, decide which one seems like the most fun, and decide which one has the program and boys that seem like the best fit for you.

And what’s the best way to meet Troop 61?  Come camping with us!  We have all the tents and camping gear you’ll need.  And we supply all the food too!

The boys in the Troop have planned a great weekend of camping for you and your son.  Your son will actually get to join with his friends and act as a Scout Patrol for the entire weekend.  If you would like, we will put up a tent for you and your son to sleep in, or if you’d prefer, you can use your own tent.  You and your son will cook on an open fire and he will learn other basic Scout skills as well as play games with the guys from the Troop and generally have a great time.  It starts at Noon Saturday and you’ll be home by Noon Sunday.

For planning purposes, we need to establish a headcount as soon as possible, so please let us know as soon as you can

Please RSVP (or ask questions) by either sending an email to Ivan OSullivan at  iosullivan@hotmail.com  or calling him at (781) 354 7322.
We really hope that you can join us on November 5th and 6th.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We will be camping at the Nobscot Scout Reservation in Sudbury.  Its beautiful and its real close too!

Troop 61 provides all the food, tents, camping equipment and the FUN!  All you and your son need to bring is a sleeping bag, warm clothing and inquisitive minds.  We will give you a complete packing list when you sign up.  But don’t worry, you don’t need a back-pack or any other specialist equipment, we have all the gear.

During the day your son will take part in a variety of scouting activities led by the boys of Troop 61 and their Senior Patrol Leader.  Your son’s Webelos Den will be transformed into a ‘Scout Patrol’ for the weekend and start to learn what it is to act as a unit as they conquer a range of challenges designed specifically for Webelos Scouts of their age.

As the sun goes down, we’ll all work together to prepare our own dinners on the campfire using the ‘foil-cooking method’.  We provide all the food, the foil and the know-how.  Trust us, you’ll make a delicious meal first time!

After dinner, there will be a campfire program of skits, songs and other entertainment.  The next day, after breakfast you’ll head out and will likely be home by Noon at the latest.

Along the way, you’ll see our ‘boy lead’ Troop in action, have a chance to meet other parents and Scouts and have a great time.

We’ve all stood in your shoes, ‘interviewing’ different Scout Troops and trying to help our sons make a good decision, so we know what it’s like for you.  Summer’s just over, the kids are back to school and suddenly you’re being asked to make a decision you probably had no idea you needed to make! So each year the Troop works hard to make the Overnight Campout a memorable event, and makes sure it addresses all the questions we know we had before our sons joined.

My son has sports or another conflict during the day, can I still attend?
Absolutely!  The event starts at 12 Noon but everyone is invited to attend for as long or as little time as they can.  If you can only attend for a few hours, please come by (which is one of the reasons we are camping locally at the Nobscot Scout Reservation).  If you can’t arrive until dinner; No Problem!  Just let us know and we’ll get your dinner and tent ready.  The Campout is like the Troop – flexible.  Let us know your restrictions and we’ll work with you to accommodate them

Do we have to camp overnight?
No.  Everyone is invited to sleep over, not everyone will be ready/able to do so.  Again, lets us know your preferences and we’ll work with you.
